The Power of YouTube and Real Estate

It is truly incredible how the world is connected through the power of YouTube. Here is the story of Francesca and Gabriel.

A few years ago Francesca and her husband Gabriel discovered a little video on YouTube that I did with my mother on the Italian Riviera in a small town called Alassio in Northern Italy. My Swiss-born mother and I were at the beach vacationing from Toronto and I decided to record a video of my Mother's love of Alassio, a vacation town which she first visited as a baby with her parents over 90 years ago, and continued to visit until recently, well into her nineties.

In those 2 short minutes, I captured a little bit of my Mom's story, the beach, and her love of this place.

Incredible as it is, Francesca and Gabriel were looking to make a lifestyle change. They had a home in Oakville, Ontario, and a condo in Ft. Lauderdale, and they were looking to retire in Italy where Francesca was born. They were googling the best places to live and retire in Italy and came across my little video. As it happens, Francesca also connected with me on my business Facebook page, Yorkville Lifestyle, because they initially thought of moving to a condo in Yorkville, Toronto.

Well, history has a way of unfolding and Gabriel called me "out of the blue" and told me they saw my Alassio video and were moved by it. Gabriel found my mobile number and called me. Coincidentally, we were all in Ft. Lauderdale and we met in their Florida condo.

When we all returned to Toronto, I introduced them to my mother who spoke to them about Alassio and this wonderful, magical place in Italy on the Ligurian coast. What a coincidence!! Within a year, they sold both their homes, packed up their belongings, shipped their car to Italy, and purchased a new-build house in the glorious hills of Alassio overlooking the Italian Riviera.

We are now life-long friends and we follow each other on Facebook. Francesca and Gabriel are overjoyed that they are living their dream of retiring in Alassio, Italy and I hope to see them next year in Alassio. Such is the incredible power of strangers becoming connected through the power of the internet and a little YouTube video.
