From Experience to Empowerment: Why I Created SeniorsMatter.ca for Boomers, Seniors & Their Families
For many, real estate is about location and value. But for Baby Boomers, seniors, and their adult children, it’s something far more personal. It’s about life transition—letting go of a home filled with decades of memories, facing the unknown of what’s next, and navigating it all with dignity and care.
I know this intimately, because I’ve lived it.
My Journey: Why This Work Matters Deeply to Me
I’m Vivien Sharon, a full-time real estate broker based in Toronto with Sotheby’s International Realty Canada. For years, I’ve specialized in helping clients buy and sell homes in the city’s most desirable neighbourhoods. But over time, I noticed something: a growing number of my clients were either Baby Boomers planning their next chapter or adult children supporting aging parents through complex transitions.
I didn’t just understand their situation—I was living it too.
I’m an empty nester who made the leap from a large suburban family home to a condo in Yorkville, one of Toronto’s most vibrant urban neighbourhoods. That process wasn’t just a move—it was a shift in identity, lifestyle, and priorities. I had to consider space, walkability, access to culture and healthcare, and most of all, how to make a new space feel like home.
But that’s not the whole story.
My mother is over 100 years old and continues to age in place with full-time care. Over the years, I’ve supported her through health crises, mobility challenges, and decisions around long-term safety and support. I’ve experienced the emotional weight that adult children carry—navigating care, finances, housing, and difficult conversations, often all at once.
These personal experiences led me to pursue advanced, specialized training. I became a Lifestyle55+ MASTER REALTOR® and one of the founding Canadian members of the Seniors Real Estate Advisor (SREA) group. This journey not only shaped my real estate practice—it inspired the creation of something bigger.
As a Lifestyle55+ MASTER member, I am part of a very unique group of professionals within this industry! We are supported by a Canadian wide Network supported by Canada’s largest unbiased seniors’ housing and services directory www.SeniorCareAccess.com.
